Lioness Nina has been seen with young cubs in Nairobi National Park! Dr. Francis Lesilau, with whom Leo Foundation has partnered for over 10 years now, recognized her by her whisker spot pattern on a recent photo which was taken in the park.
Nina’s ID marks were first added to Francis’ research database in July 2016. In that same year, Nina was also fitted with a satellite collar as part of the research on conflicts around Nairobi National Park, led by Francis. At the time, Nina was estimated to be 3-4 years old and was a member of the pride of lions residing in the center of the park (The Middle Pride), with lions Cheru and Alex as leading pride males. At more than 9 years of age, she must now be one of the oldest and most experienced lionesses in Nairobi National Park.
