On the 8th of August, the Nakuru Lion Project has officially been opened by Hans de Iongh. This has been done by the symbolically handing over one of the satellite collars to the senior warden of Lake Nakuru National Park in Kenya.
The Nakuru Lion Project is a collaboration between Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Leiden University and the Leo Foundation. The main goal of the project is to support KWS in reducing conflicts between lions and local cattle farms which are located around the park.
This year, two lions will be equipped with a satellite collar. Those lions will be closely followed by PhD student Monica Chege and two students of the Leiden University (Sophie and Kati).
